Application for Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician-in-Training
2025 Renewals for Pharmacy Technicians are now Open
For 2025 license renewals:
Pharmacy technicians must complete 10 hours of ACPE-accredited continuing education
Pharmacy technicians who immunize must complete 1 hour of CE related to immunizations.
ALL CE must be ACPE-accredited and be reported to NABP's CPE Monitor.
Certification or recertification of CPR, ACLS, or PALS by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association is no longer recognized as acceptable CE unless the course is ACPE-accredited.
As a reminder, a separate immunization registration is not required.
For more information on CE requirements, please refer to Chapter 6: Continuing Professional Education Regulations. For more information on requirements for administering vaccines, please refer to Chapter 16: Immunization Regulations.
All pharmacy technician applicants must be currently certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT).
The Technician-in-Training permit allows a person to work in a pharmacy under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge while studying to become certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) to be licensed as a Pharmacy Technician.
The permit is valid for two years and a technician-in-training can only work at the sponsoring pharmacy.
Before a technician-in-training can work at a different pharmacy, a pharmacy sponsor form must be completed and submitted to the Board office.
